Wisconsin Swimming and Diving Teams Prepare for Iowa

The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams arrive in Iowa City, Iowa Friday afternoon for their weekend meet against the Hawkeyes. Competition will take place at the Fieldhouse Pool and is set to begin at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
"We look forward to opening our Big Ten schedule against Iowa," head coach Eric Hansen said. "We're anxious to see how much we've improved since our first meet."
Taking first in three events against UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee, senior Eric Wiesner (Montrose, Colo.) joins team leaders Tim Liebhold (Chapel Hill, N.C. )and Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.) to direct the Wisconsin men's team. Last week's Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Susan Johnson (Toldeo, Ohio) leads the women's swimming team with three first-place finishes at the season opener, while last week's Big Ten Diver of the Week Amanda Witte (LaGrange, Ill.) fronts the Badgers on the boards.
The record-setting 400 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams led the Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team to an impressive 172-116 triumph over the Hawkeyes last season, while the women's team cruised to a 176-71 victory, winning all 16 events and capturing first on both boards.
The Iowa men's swimming and diving team returns 10 of the 15 top individual swimming performers from 2003-04, as well as two legs of the school-record setting 200 medley relay. Leading the way will be team co-captains Natan Pheil and Eric Hahn.
The women's swimming and diving team is directed by new coach and Iowa alum Marc Long. The team has 10 seniors returning for the season, including All-American and co-captain Jennifer Skolaski. Skolaski is one of four seniors that competed at the Olympic trials.
The two-day coed meet will be the first competition of the season for the Hawkeyes, who held an intrasquad meet on Saturday, Oct. 9.
