Wisconsin Sweeps St. Cloud State

The No. 5 Wisconsin women's hockey team sent St. Cloud State home with just one goal after game two of the series, Saturday afternoon at the Kohl Center. After shutting the Huskies out, 7-0 Friday, the Badgers nearly repeated the score with a 7-1 victory over the Huskies Saturday. The Badgers weekend sweep elevated their record to 7-1-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The Huskies fell to 2-6-0 overall and in the conference.
After a scoreless first period the Badgers broke the Husky defense with a power-play goal by Molly Engstrom at 10:11 in the second period. Energized Wisconsin scored again at 13:46 off a Sara Bauer goal.
In the third Wisconsin had worn down the Husky defense scoring five goals in the period. With two Badgers in the penalty box, the Huskies capitalized on their opportunity with a goal at 12:18 in the third period spoiling a second shut out for the Badgers.
Scoring for the Badgers were sophomores Lindsay Macy with two goals and Heidi Kletzien with one. Senior Nicole Uliasz and junior Nikki Burish also added one apiece.
In the net Christine Dufour made 23 saves and improved her record to 3-1-0 this season.
The Badgers will say goodbye to the Kohl Center as they will spend three weekends on the road in November. First up is WCHA nemesis Minnesota Duluth, Nov. 5-6. Johnson's skaters will be back to their home ice Dec. 4-5 to challenge the reigning national champion, Minnesota.
