For the second straight time, University of Wisconsin swimmer Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.) made it to the semifinal round of an event at the FINA World Swimming Championships, but once again he was unable to advance to the finals.
Mania, swimming for Poland, posted a time of 25.14 to take 12th in the semifinals of the 50-meter backstroke. Only the top eight finishers moved on to the final round.
On Thursday, Mania qualified for the 100-meter backstroke semifinals but ended up in 12th as well.
The Badgers' co-captain reached the semifinal round of the 50 back by taking eighth in the morning prelims with a time of 25.03. That time still would have netted him 12th place in the semifinals; 24.73 was the eighth-place time.
Mania's last event at the Championships, the 200-meter backstroke, will be held on Monday.
