Wisconsin Crosses Border for Minnesota Invite

The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams arrive in Minnesota on Friday for a weekend meet against 11 other teams, including Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State and Purdue. Competition takes place Friday, Nov. 19 through Sunday, Nov. 21 at the University Aquatic Center.
The No. 17-ranked men lost its most recent meet against, 130-113 to Northwestern. Leading the men was senior Eric Wiesner (Montrose, Colo.), who won the 200-yard freestyle and tooksecond in the 100-yard freestyle.
Co-captain Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.) took second in both the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke. Twin brothers Josh and Justin Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa.) had NCAA Zone qualifying scores, giving them a place in the qualifying rounds in the spring.
Meanwhile, the No. 10 women defeated the Wildcats, posting a score of 135.5-95.5. The swimmers were led by senior Carly Piper (Grosse Point Woods, Mich.) who won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.
Junior Anna Trinidad (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also took home a first-place finish in the 400-yard IM as well as the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Amanda Witte (LaGrange, Ill.) leads the Badger women on the boards as she continues to maintain consistent scores.
Last year, the Badger men set records at the Minnesota Invite in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:20.91), 200-yard IM (1:49.41), 400-yard medley relay (3:15.61), 100-yard butterfly (48.25) and the 100-yard backstroke (48.12). Mania was part of three of the five records set last year, and will look to improve on last year's performance.
The women, meanwhile, were led by Piper and Trinidad, who won six different events between them. The former currently holds the record in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:26.09).
Competition is set to begin at noon on Friday, followed by the finals at 6 p.m. Prelims are scheduled for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday, while the finals are again at 6 p.m. Sunday's action is slated for a 10 a.m. start, while the finals are at 3 p.m.
