The University of Wisconsin men's swimming team lost its second dual meet in a row, falling to Michigan 132-103. After the loss, the Badgers drop to 1-1-0 in the Big Ten and 3-2-0 overall.
The Badgers were led by freshmen diver Josh Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa.), who won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 285.60 and 302.18, respectively. Fellow freshman Ben Raznick took second on the 3-meter board with a score of 268.13.
'Our divers had an outstanding performance today,' said diving coach Josh Seykora. 'With Josh leading us, we have what we didn 't have last year. We competed with a lot of energy, and it really showed what we can do when we are at our best.'
The swimmers were led by senior co-captain Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.), who won the 50-yard freestyle in the time of 20.59. Mania, who was the only UW swimmer to win an event againt UM, also took second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.11).
'We had a handful of positives,' said head coach Eric Hansen. 'Adam was very tough in his strongest events, but other than that we need to work harder as a team to compete better in our upcoming meets.'
Michigan was led by Olympic gold-medalist Peter Vanderkaay. He won the 100-yard freestyle (44.82), the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.38) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:01.16).
