Earl Raising His Game
December 09, 2004 | Men's Hockey
As a freshman, forward Robbie Earl showed flashes of brilliance and became a crowd favorite with his dazzling offensive outbursts. Now a sophomore, Earl has become more consistent, and his consistency has him atop the WCHA scoring race.
With 18 points through 12 league games, including eight goals and 10 assists, the Los Angeles native sits alone at the top of the WCHA scoring race in league games. A three-point weekend last week against Minnesota-Duluth helped the sophomore maintain the lead he had heading into the series. In all games, Earl boasts a team-leading 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists to share fourth in the league in overall scoring.
Named Wisconsin's first WCHA Offensive Player of the Week in over three seasons following his hat trick at Alaska Anchorage in mid-November, Earl shares the team lead with six multi-point games.
A draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer, Earl has points in all but four games this season.
Earl has also become a clutch goal scorer during his time with the UW. Of his 23 career goals, 11 have come in the third period or overtime and his six career game-winning goals is tops among current Badgers.
No. 2/3 Wisconsin (12-4-0, 9-3-0 WCHA) travels to Minnesota State (6-6-2, 3-6-1 WCHA) this weekend to wrap up the first half of WCHA play. Another consistent performance from Robbie Earl and the trip may help continue the Badgers six-game WCHA winning streak.
