Athlon Tabs Badgers 21st Nationally

Athlon Sports 2004 College Football Annual, which will be on newsstands on June 7, has Wisconsin at No. 21 in the publication's preseason ranking.
Athlon also picks the Badgers for fourth in the Big Ten. The magazine tabs defensive back Jim Leonhard as a preseason second-team All-American and defensive lineman Anttaj Hawthorne as a third-team All-American.
Leonhard, Hawthorne, running back Anthony Davis and offensive lineman Dan Buenning (UW's four team captains for 2004) are first-team All-Big Ten choices by Athlon. Defensive back Scott Starks is a second-team all-conference choice, while offensive lineman Jonathan Clinkscale is a third-team all-league selection.
The magazine also rates the Badgers' offensive and defensive lines No. 1 in the Big Ten. The UW running backs, defensive backs and wide receivers are ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten in Athlon's positional ratings.
Wisconsin opens the 2004 season at home on Sept. 4 against Central Florida.
