Harris Named Cousy Award Runner-Up
April 07, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Wisconsin junior point guard Devin Harris finished second to St. Joseph's Jameer Nelson in the voting for the inaugural Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced. Nelson received 20 first-place votes of the 23-person selection committee and accumulated 102 points. Harris finished second with 65 points, including one first-place vote, and Chris Hernandez of Stanford placed third (32).
Earlier in the week, Harris was also named the recipient of the Chicago Tribune's Silver Basketball, given to the Big Ten MVP as voted on by league coaches. He is just the third Wisconsin player in the 59-year history of the award to earn the honor. The others were Glen Selbo in 1947 and Don Rehfeldt in 1950.
