Conroy Named Director of Basketball Operations
May 25, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Duffy Conroy, who spent two seasons at Wisconsin as the men's basketball video coordinator, is returning to Madison to take over the role of director of basketball operations, UW head coach Bo Ryan announced Tuesday. Conroy, who worked for the Badgers during Ryan's first two seasons, spent last year as the athletic director and head boys basketball coach at Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa.
'It's great to have Duffy back on board,' Coach Ryan said. 'He gained valuable experience as our video coordinator in his two years here. A year as an administrator and head coach will definitely help him as he transitions into the role of director of basketball operations. His knowledge of how a basketball program is run will be put to good use.'
Conroy led Assumption, his alma mater, to a 12-10 record last season, winning eight of its last 10 games. He spent the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons at Wisconsin as the video coordinator, responsible for video exchange and editing. Prior to that, he served as an administrative assistant on Ryan's staff at UW-Milwaukee for one season.
'It's great to be back at Wisconsin and a member of Coach Ryan's staff again,' Conroy said. 'I'm very familiar with the staff and the surroundings, so that should ease my transition. I 'm excited about the challenges that lie ahead and can't wait to get started.'
Conroy, 27, was an honorable mention All-American in his senior year at St. Ambrose University. A two-time all-conference performer and team captain, Conroy led St. Ambrose to three appearances in the NAIA tournament. He finished his career with more than 1,000 points.
Conroy graduated from St. Ambrose in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in marketing. A native of Davenport, Iowa, he is the youngest of seven children. His older brother, Ed, just competed his first season as an assistant at Tennessee after spending two years as the UT director of basketball operations.
