Quoss, Harmon, Lennart Named CRCA All-Region Rowers
May 27, 2004 | Women's Rowing
Junior Julie Quoss (Naperville, Ill.), sophomore Kari Harmon (Menomonie, Wis.) and junior Nikki Lennart (Milwaukee), members of the University of Wisconsin's 11th-ranked varsity eight, have been named to the sixth-annual Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Central Region Team. Quoss and Harmon appear on the first team, while Lennart represents Wisconsin on the second team.
The minimum qualifications to make the team include rowing in at least 75 percent of the team's season in the varsity eight and have their head coach be a member in good standing with the CRCA.
Quoss spent all but the San Diego Crew Classic in the UW varsity eight, where she rowed with the second varsity eight. Harmon and Lennart both rowed the entire spring with the varsity eight. The trio helped the Badgers climb from No. 19 in the preseason CRCA/USRowing poll to as high as No. 10 in the rankings. The boat placed third at the Big Ten championship, the school's highest finish, and placed fifth at the 2004 Central/South Region NCAA Qualifier. The boat also place fifth at the San Diego Crew Classic, the university's best result since 1998.
The three rowers give Wisconsin its first CRCA all-region rowers since 2001, when a pair of Badgers made the first team. They also bring Wisconsin all-time total of all-region rowers to eight, joining Kati Hope and Laura Macfarlane in 1999, Mary Collins in 2000 and Tiffany Suda and Bridgid Myers in 2001. All but Collins made the first team.
In the central region, 12 rowers make up the first team and seven constitute the second team. Ninety-five rowers, nation-wide, were recognized.
Quoss, Harmon, Lennart and the rest of the Badgers begin the 2004 NCAA Rowing Championships on Friday with their varsity eight heat at 10:15 a.m. CT. The second varsity eight and varsity four begin later in the day. Rowing runs Friday-Sunday, May 28-30 at the CSUS Aquatics Center on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
