Hubbard, Omole Qualify for World Junior Championships

Paul Hubbard and Demi Omole, members of the University of Wisconsin men's track and field team, have qualified for the 2004 World Junior Championships. The championships will be held from July 13-18 in Grosseto, Italy.
Hubbard, a sophomore-to-be from Colorado Springs, Colo., will compete in the triple jump on July 16 and 18. He won that event with a leap of 51 feet, 5 ' inches at the USA Junior Championships, which were held from June 25-27 in College Station, Texas. Hubbard also finished second in the long jump but did not qualify for the world meet in the event because he did not have a world qualifying mark.
The 2004 Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor champion in the long jump, Hubbard finished fourth indoors in the triple jump and sixth outdoors. He has personal bests of 24-5 ' in the long jump and 52-4 in the triple jump.
Omole, who is also a sophomore-to-be, will compete in the 100-meter dash on July 13 and 14. He will also run on the 4x100-meter relay which will compete on July 17 and 18. The Milwaukee native won the 100 meters at the USA Junior Championships in a wind-aided 10.14 seconds.
Omole was the 2004 Big Ten Outdoor champion at 100 meters and also anchored the Badgers' 4x100-meter relay to the conference title. He set the UW record in the 100 meters with his fifth-place clocking of 10.15 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which garnered him his first All-America honor.
