ESPN's Engblom to Speak at Face Off Feast
August 30, 2004 | Men's Hockey
Former Badger All-American defenseman Brian Engblom, a longtime ESPN color analyst for NHL broadcasts, will serve as guest speaker at the Wisconsin Blue Line Club's 2004 Badger Hockey Face Off Feast, set for Thursday, Oct. 7. The Face Off Feast will follow Wisconsin's Red and White scrimmage, which begins 4 p.m. at the Kohl Center that day. Dinner starts at 6 p.m.
A Winnipeg, Manitoba native, Engblom skated from 1973-75 for the Badgers, earning All-America honors his sophomore year. Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1975, he joined the professional ranks the following season. Two-time Calder Cup champion for winning American Hockey League (AHL) titles in the first two years of his career with the Nova Scotia Voyaguers, he went on to win Stanley Cup championships in 1978 and 1979 with the Canadiens. A 1982 Second-Team NHL All-Star, he went on to represent his country as a member of Team Canada for the 1981 Canada Cup and 1983 World Championship.
After retiring from the NHL in 1987, Engblom spent four years as a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch. He then moved back into the hockey world as radio color analyst with the Los Angeles Kings, before joining the ice hockey broadcast team at ESPN in 1995. He has since been a part of the coverage for eight consecutive Stanley Cup finals.
