Pavelski WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
November 22, 2005 | Men's Hockey
Wisconsin center Joe Pavelski, who led the way offensively with two goals and an assist as the league-leading Badgers extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games with a sweep over visiting Minnesota State, has been named the Red Baron' WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 21-27.
A 5-11, 185-pound sophomore from Plover, Wis., Pavelski collected two goals and an assist during the 2-1 and 3-2 wins. With both his linemates out of the lineup last Saturday (Nov. 19) night, Pavelski was dominant, scoring both UW goals, one on the powerplay and one at even-strength. He led all players and nearly accounted for one-third of the Badgers' 33 shots with his 10-shot effort. He finished +1 in the contest.
Then on Sunday (Nov. 20), Pavelski assisted on the UW's second goal, shortly after Ben Street jumped on the ice as goalie Brian Elliott came off during a delayed penalty call. Pavelski hit the streaking Street with a blind behind-the-back pass that sent Street in alone on the MSU goal. He recorded four more shots in the contest.
The three-point series gave Pavelski points in eight of his last nine games (7-8'15) and a share of the league scoring lead in WCHA games. In five of those contests, he has scored at least two points. The Badgers' leading scorer this season with 8-8'16, Pavelski was a member of the All-WCHA Rookie Team in 2004-05 and is an NHL draft choice of San Jose.
No. 2-ranked UW, 9-1-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the WCHA, plays at Michigan State on Nov. 25 and at Michigan on Nov. 26 in the annual College Hockey Showcase.
Also nominated this week were: Marty Sertich, F, CC; Kris Chucko, F, UM; and Brock Hooton, F, SCSU.
