Bauer, Horras Earn Player of the Week Honors
December 14, 2005 | Women's Hockey
Two members of the Wisconsin women's hockey team earned player of the week recognition after outstanding performances against league rival and then-No. 1 Minnesota Duluth, Dec. 9-10. Junior Sara Bauer (St. Catharines, Ontario) was named the USCHO.com national offensive player of the week while senior goalie Meghan Horras (Appleton, Wis.) garnered defensive honors from the WCHA.
The three-point weekend for Bauer was by no means record-setting, but her offensive prowess led the Badgers to three points in the league standings. The assistant captain scored the first Wisconsin goal and assisted on the second giving the Badgers a much needed spark in Friday night's 2-2 tie. In Saturday's 2-1 win, she scored the game's first goal, short-handed, to crush the Bulldogs ' early momentum. With 16 goals and 18 assists, Bauer continues to lead the nation in points scored.
Horras earned her WCHA honors in the Badger net with 21 saves in Friday's tie and 26 saves in the win Saturday. The Bulldogs had been averaging 4.50 goals per game but managed to sneak just three by Horras in the series. She remained unbeaten in league play with a 7-0-1 record.
Bauer, Horras and the rest of the Badgers are on hiatus until Jan. 6-7 when they travel to Detroit to take on non-conference opponent Wayne State.
