December 05, 2005 | Men's Hockey
Wisconsin freshman Jack Skille (Madison, Wis.) was one of 22 players named by USA Hockey today to the 2006 U.S. National Junior Team. The squad will compete at the 2006 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Vancouver, Kamloops and Kelowna, British Columbia, Dec. 26, 2005-Jan. 5, 2006.
The roster is comprised of the best American players under the age of 20.
Among the 12 forwards selected, Skille is currently the Badgers leading rookie scorer with five goals, four assists and nine points. He was selected seventh in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. A former member of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, Skille joins former Badger assistant coach John Hynes and former Badger skater Jim Johannson with the team. Hynes will serve as one of the team's assistant coaches, while Johannson will serve as the team's Senior Director of Hockey Operations.
Last year, Badgers Jake Dowell and Jeff Likens skated for Team USA in the tournament, while two years ago, Dowell, Likens and former Badger Ryan Suter skated under head coach Mike Eaves for the Americans' first and only gold medal in the event.
