Porter Boathouse Open to the Public Saturday

The University of Wisconsin and its rowing programs would like to invite the public to a Porter Boathouse open house on Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The $8.56 million rowing facility will be dedicated on Friday, April 22 during an invitation-only event that will celebrate the building's grand opening. Expected attendees include Governor James Doyle, Chancellor John Wiley, Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez, lead donors Ben and Lee Porter, as well as hundreds of others who made the project possible through donations and their time.
The public will be welcome all day Saturday to visit the facility, located at the north end of Babcock Drive on the south shore of Lake Mendota. The building will be open while the rowing teams compete at the Midwest Rowing Championships at Vilas Park on Lake Wingra.
Some of the highlights of the new facility include the one-of-a-kind moving water tank that allows 24 Badgers to train and work on technique, separate workout rooms for the men's, women's openweight and women's lightweight programs, boat storage for more than 100 shells and locker rooms to accomodate the men 's and women's programs. Also located in the facility are coaches offices, a boat repair bay, observation deck and athletic training room.
