Former Badger defensive tackle Anttaj Hawthorne, a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, was chosen in the sixth round (175th pick overall) of the National Football League Draft by the Oakland Raiders Sunday afternoon.
Hawthorne, a team captain last season, played in 50 of a possible 51 games (including 42 starts) during his Wisconsin career. He finished his career with 201 tackles, including 42.5 tackles for loss and 12 quarterback sacks.
Last season Hawthorne earned his fourth letter and was an honorable mention All-America choice by SI.com. He tied for the team lead with 11.5 tackles for loss and posted the only interception of his career in the season opener against UCF.
Hawthorne joins fellow former Badger defensive linemen Erasmus James and Jonathan Welsh as 2005 NFL draft picks.
