Jefferson Selected By New Orleans
April 24, 2005 | Football
Former Wisconsin defensive tackle Jason Jefferson, an honorable mention All-Big Ten choice last season, was picked in the sixth round (193rd overall choice) of the National Football League Draft by the New Orleans Saints Sunday afternoon.
Jefferson's selection means Wisconsin's entire starting defensive line unit (Erasmus James, Jonathan Welsh and Anttaj Hawthorne were the others) from 2004 has been chosen in the 2005 NFL Draft.
Jefferson, a Chicago native, played in 42 of a possible 51 games (including 37 starts alongside fellow tackle Hawthorne) during his four-year career with the Badgers. Jefferson started all 12 games in 2004 and made 25 tackles.
Six Badgers (Jefferson, James, Hawthorne, Welsh, Scott Starks and Dan Buenning) have been chosen thus far in the 2005 draft.
