Starks Picked By Jacksonville
April 24, 2005 | Football
Cornerback Scott Starks, Wisconsin's 2004 team MVP and a first-team All-Big Ten selection, was chosen in the third round (87th pick overall) of the National Football League draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars late Saturday night.
Starks started 48 times (tied for fourth-most of the Alvarez era) in 51 career appearances with the Badgers from 2001-04. His 52 career passes defended rank third in school history. He also had seven career interceptions.
The St. Louis native enjoyed an excellent senior year in 2004. His signature performance came in the Badgers' 20-17 victory at fifth-ranked Purdue. In that contest, Starks tied a career high with nine tackles and returned a fumble 40 yards for the game-winning score late in the fourth quarter. The fumble return for TD was voted by fans as the Pontiac Game Changing Play of the Year.
Wisconsin has now had a defensive back selected in five of the past six NFL Drafts.
