Women's Track Team Competes in Iowa

The Wisconsin women's track and field team competed at two different meets in Iowa on Saturday.
At the Drake Relays in Des Moines, the quartet of Shuntia Lucas, Alex McCannel, Lisa Oikarinen and Nicole Slaby finished 13th in the sprint medley relay (200-200-400-800) in four minutes, 3.87 seconds.
Former Badger Jenelle Deatherage placed fourth in the special 1500 meters in 4:22.77.
Several UW athletes also competed at the Loras Open in Dubuque, winning one event.
Junior Theresa Giorno won the high jump at five feet, six inches. Senior Courtney Nuss finished second at 5-4 '.
Freshman Sarita Thomas took third in the 200 meters in 26.21 while freshman Elizabeth Novak was sixth in 27.28.
Junior Erin Brueggeman and sophomore Lindsey Leech tied for fourth in the pole vault at 10-6 '.
In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Lindsey Biel placed fifth in 1:08.79 while freshman Erica Tressley was sixth in 1:11.04.
The Badgers host the Wisconsin Twilight next Saturday at the Dan McClimon Memorial Track, their final preparation prior to the Big Ten Conference Outdoor Championships.
