Gordon Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

Senior rower Leah Gordon (Wausau, Wis.) is one of 10 female student-athletes selected to the 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V University Division Women's At-Large Team. The team was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
This year's team was voted on by members of CoSIDA from District V which encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin as well as the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To qualify for Academic All-District, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status at their university, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.
This year's CoSIDA Academic All-District V Women's At-Large Team consists of three tennis players, three swimming & diving team members, two ice hockey players, a lacrosse player and a rower. In addition, eight different schools were represented on the All-District Team.
The 10 women honored as Academic All-District will appear on CoSIDA 's national ballot for the Academic All-America' Women's At-Large Team, which will be announced Thursday, June 17.
Gordon boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a double major in psychology and biology. The Wausau, Wis., native is the first Badger rower since Annie Trimberger in 2003 to make the team. A member of Wisconsin's No. 11 varsity eight for the first half of this season, Gordon faced five top-10 teams. Switched to the second varsity eight for the 2005 Big Ten Championship, Gordon helped the boat take third. She also placed third at the 2005 NCAA Central-South Regional racing in the UW varsity four. A 2005 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar Athlete, Gordon is women 's openweight rowing's 2003 and 2004 UW Athletic Board Scholar as holder of the sport's highest grade-point average. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, she has had past rowing success as well. With the varsity four, Gordon placed seventh at 2004 NCAA Championships and second in 2004 NCAA Central-South Regional. She also won the second novice eight title at the 2002 Big Ten Championship.
