DeBauche Named to Ray Guy Award Watch List
September 13, 2005 | Football
University of Wisconsin sophomore Ken DeBauche has been named to the 2005 Ray Guy Award Watch List, the Greater Augusta Sports Council announced today. The honor is bestowed upon the top collegiate punter of the year.
The winner is determined by a national selection committee made up of sports writers, college football coaches, sports information directors, former punters and members designated by the Greater Augusta Sports Council. Candidates will be examined through total yardage punted and net average, among other statistical categories, as well as their leadership and self-discipline.
DeBauche, a native of Suamico, Wis., matched a career high with a 57-yard punt in the season opener against Bowling Green. Last year, he averaged 41.8 yards per punt and dropped 17 inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
The Ray Guy Award Watch List will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in early November, then down to three finalists at the end of the month. On December 8, 2005, the finalists will be in Orlando, Fla. for the Home Depot College Football awards show. The winner will be announced live on ESPN.
Former Badger Kevin Stemke was the inaugural winner of the award.
