Badgers Finish 15th in Polls
January 05, 2006 | Football
The 2005 Wisconsin football team was ranked 15th in both the final USA Today Coaches and Associated Press polls released following the Bowl Championship Series title game between Texas and Southern California Wednesday night.
It marks the Badgers' highest finish in those polls since 1999 when UW was fourth in both rankings.
Wisconsin, 10-3 overall after its 24-10 upset victory over then-No. 7 Auburn in the 2006 Capital One Bowl, finished in the top 25 of the coaches and A.P. polls for the sixth time under former head coach Barry Alvarez. Alvarez's Badgers also ended up in the top 25 in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2004. Ironically, Auburn was 14th in both the coaches and A.P. final polls for this season.
UW also finished in the top 20 of the BCS rankings this season (the Badgers were 19th) for the third time under Alvarez.
