
Badgers Compete in Day One of Minnesota Invitational

The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team is currently in first place with a score of 254 after day one of the three-day Minnesota Invitational held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The men's team currently stands in second place with a score of 212.
The Badger women were led by sophomore Yi Ting Siow. Siow, who owns the Minnesota Invitational record in the 200-yard IM (1:59.66), won the event this year with a time of 2:00.01.
The women's relay teams also performed well gaining two victories. First, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hannah McClurg, Rosie Morahan, Jenny Will and Jackie Vavrek placed second with an NCAA-'A' time of 1:35.19. The 400-yard medley relay team of Susan Johnson, Siow, Katie Imhoff-Smith and Hannah McClurg also placed first with a score of 3:45.83.
Vavrek earned another second-place finish when she had a time of 23.25 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Jen Illescas led the Badgers in the 500-yard freestyle with a second place finish (4:52.22). While freshman Gabby Maddalena earned fourth place in the same event (4:53.37).
On the men's side, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tommy Gregory, Nick Fulton, Eric Johnson and Dan Koenig took fifth place with a time of 1:25.36.
Sophomore Scott Rice was the top-finisher for the men as he took second in the 200-yard IM with a 1:51.43. Also, senior Tom Molzahn helped lead the men with a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.51)
Diving for the men were sophomore Kelly Todd and freshman Tim Feyereisen. Todd placed sixth on the 1-meter board with a score of 251.05 while Feyereisen took eight with a score of 239.15.
The meet continues tomorrow with the prelims at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. On Sunday, prelims will start at 10 a.m. and the finals at 3 p.m.
