Badgers Accept Capital One Bowl Invite
November 21, 2006 | Football
The University of Wisconsin football program accepted an invitation Tuesday afternoon to participate in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla., on New Year's Day against an opponent-to-be-named from the Southeastern Conference.
The game will kick off at 1 p.m. EST (noon CST) and be televised live by ABC.
Head coach Bret Bielema, named the Big Ten Coach of the Year earlier on Tuesday, has guided the Badgers to a school-record 11 regular-season victories. Bielema is just the sixth rookie head coach (no prior head coaching experience) in NCAA history to direct his team to 11 wins.
This will be Wisconsin's second consecutive appearance in the Capital One Bowl. The Badgers registered one of the biggest wins in school history last season when they defeated No. 7-ranked Auburn, 24-10, in the final game of then head coach Barry Alvarez's tenure at Wisconsin.
This will be Wisconsin's 18th bowl appearance. The Badgers are 9-8 overall in bowl games, including victories in nine of their last 13 bowl contests. This is also the 12th bowl appearance in the past 14 seasons for Wisconsin (including a school record-tying five straight). In the Big Ten, only Michigan and Ohio State can match that accomplishment.
