UW Edges Alaska in OT

Matthew Ford scored the Badgers' game-winner with 1:30 left in the overtime period to give the Badgers the 3-2 victory over Alaska Anchorage. The Badgers improve to 4-3-2, 3-1-1 WCHA, while the Seawolves drop to 2-3-2 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play.
Freshman Blake Geoffrion (Brentwood, Tenn.) scored his first goal as a Badger during the third period, while Michael Davies (Chesterfield, Mo.) scored the first of the Badgers ' three goals. The overtime win was the first in four games yet this season for the Badgers.
The Badgers gained the 1-0 lead early as Davies scored on a Wisconsin power play less than two minutes into the game. Andrew Joudrey (Bedford, Nova Scotia) and Jamie McBain (Faribault, Minn.) notched assists on the Davies goal.
Even as the Badgers controlled the puck most of the second period, Alaska Anchorage was able to tie the game at one a piece as Paul Crowder's power play shot bounced off Davis Drewiske (Hudson, Wis.) and slid by UW goalie Brian Elliott (Newmarket, Ontario) at the 14:32 mark of the second.
Geoffrion scored the second Badger goal of the night at the 1:17 mark of the third to regain the lead for Wisconsin. With only 32 seconds left in regulation, the Seawolves won a face-off in the Wisconsin zone and Crowder was able to find the net for his second goal of the night tying the game at 2-2, sending the contest into overtime.
At the 3:30 mark in the extra frame, Ford (West Hills, Calif.) scored on Alaska Anchorage goalie Nathan Lawson to notch the win for the Badgers. Tom Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.) notched the helper on Ford's game-winner.
Elliott ended the game with 27 saves, while Lawson stopped 31 shots from Wisconsin. The Badgers finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while Alaska Anchorage was 1-for-7.
UW takes on Alaska Anchorage again Saturday night. The puck drops at 10 p.m. CT, and the game can be heard live on Madison's 1310 AM.
