
Badgers Run at Pre-Nationals

Competing without several of their top performers, the No. 2 Wisconsin men's cross country team scored 347 points in the Blue Race to finish 13th at the Indiana State Pre-Nationals Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.
No. 15 Northern Arizona took home the team title with 124 points, besting No. 4 Iona who finished in second place with 136 points. Lopez Lomong captured the individual title for Northern Arizona, beating 261 other runners by covering the 8,000-meter course in 23 minutes and three seconds.
Freshman Landon Peacock (Morley, Mich.) led the way for the Badgers, placing 43rd in 24:04. Close on his heels was sophomore Craig Miller (Lancaster, Pa.) who finished 45th in 24:06.
Junior Christian Wagner (Columbus, Ind.) and sophomore Ryan Gasper (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) were next to cross the finish line, placing 69th and 84th, respectively, in 24:17 and 24:26.
Rounding out the scoring for UW was freshman Jack Bolas (Chapel Hill, N.C.), who placed 106th in 24:42.
Also competing for Wisconsin in the Blue Race were freshmen David Pede (Greenfield, Wis.) and Ryan Craven (Mount Prospect, Ill.) who placed 176th and 193rd, respectively, in 25:15 and 25:30.
The Badgers also had four runners compete in the Men's Open Race, with sophomore Brandon Bethke (Lake Forest, Calif.) placing first in 24:17.
Sophomore Tim Pierie (Mokena, Ill.) placed 57th in 25:41 and senior Ben Porter (East Troy, Wis.) finished 110th in 26:39. Freshman Noah Shannon also ran but did not finish the race.

The Badgers will next compete at the Big Ten Championships in Columbus, Ohio on Oct. 28 where they will look to capture a conference record ninth straight crown. The race is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on the OSU Golf Course.
