Former Badgers on the Move
October 16, 2007 | Football
Two former Badgers currently in the NFL were on the move today as running back Michael Bennett and wide receiver Chris Chambers both found themselves moving to new teams.
Chambers, who played at UW from 1997-2000, had played with the Miami Dolphins since being drafted in 2001. Tuesday he was traded to the San Diego Chargers in exchange for a 2008 second-round draft pick.
Michael Bennett, who only played the 1999 and 2000 seasons with the Badgers, was drafted along with Chambers in the 2001 draft. Bennett spent five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, before being traded to the Chiefs prior to the 2006 season. Tuesday, Bennett was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks in the 2008 and 2009 draft. The picks will be based on the team's finish this season.
Both players have their names etched in the UW record books. Chambers is fourth in receiving yards (2,004), fourth in receptions (127) and fifth in receiving touchdowns (16). Bennett holds the Wisconsin record for most rushing yards in a half with 258, and is 13th all-time in rushing yards with 1,070 after playing only two seasons.
