Deluce Nets Second Straight WCHA Honor
October 23, 2007 | Women's Hockey
For the second straight week, freshman forward Mallory Deluce has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Deluce helped the Badgers respond to their first loss in nearly 11 months with a four-point performance against St. Cloud State last Saturday (Oct. 21).
After being held without a point last Friday, Deluce recorded her first career hat trick and added an assist on Saturday. The London, Ontario native scored her second game-winning goal of the season and her team-leading third power-play goal in the contest.
For the season, Deluce leads the nation in goals scored with eight and shares the national point lead at 11 points with two other players, including her linemate and fellow UW rookie Hilary Knight.
Deluce is the first Badger to be named the WCHA Rookie of the Week in consecutive weeks since current sophomore Meghan Duggan claimed the honor three straight times from Jan. 22-Feb.5, 2007. Duggan won the award an unprecedented five times last season en route to being named the WCHA Rookie of the Year.
In all, Deluce is the fourth Badger to be named WCHA Rookie of the Week in consecutive weeks, following Duggan, Jinelle Zaugg (Feb. 2005) and Sara Bauer (March 2004).
Deluce and the Badgers return to the ice Oct. 26-27 when they play host to Minnesota State at the Kohl Center. Faceoff is set for 2 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
