November 20, 2007 | Wrestling
Wisconsin junior Dallas Herbst was named the Big Ten Conference's Co-Wrestler of the Week after going 5-0 in Ithaca, N.Y., last weekend.
Herbst, a Winneconne, Wis., native, captured the Wisconsin victory in its dual against No. 8 Cornell Friday, Nov. 16, by pinning Matt Panasevich in 6:44 during the final bout of the evening. With the pin, the No. 11 Badgers edged out the Big Red 21-18. It was also the 33rd pin of Herbst's career, which moved him into second all-time on UW's career falls list.
On Saturday Herbst won the 197 lbs. division at the Body Bar Systems Invite. He pinned three-straight opponents to earn a spot in the championship match and beat Maryland 's Hudson Taylor, 4-3 for the first place finish. Herbst now has 36 career pins and is 11 falls behind UW's career leader, Lee Kemp.
This is the second Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honor for Herbst and he shares this week 's accolade with Penn State's Jake Strayer. Herbst was also honored by the conference on Jan. 10, 2007 after he went 4-0 at the Lonestar Duals. This is also the first Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honor for Wisconsin since current junior Zach Tanelli won the award on Jan. 24, 2007.
Wisconsin returns to action Nov. 30-Dec. 1 for competition at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
