Wisconsin Solid in Final Fall Race
November 04, 2007 | Men's Rowing
The Wisconsin men's rowing team finished off its fall season at the American Heritage River Classic on Sunday. Held in Wyandotte, Mich., the team recorded three first-place finishes.
It was a very untypical fall day as the weather was clear with 55 degree temperatures and a light tailwind.
The novice rowers performed well in what was their only race of the fall. The novice 8 boats claimed first through third places as well as notching a fifth-place finish. The novice 8 'A' boat recorded a first-place time of 14:25, with the 'B' boat just 10 seconds behind at 14:35.
'Our novice squad had their only race of the fall, and I felt that they did pretty well.' said Wisconsin freshman coach Eric Mueller.
The men's novice 4 was also solid as they notched first, second and fifth-place finishes. The novice 4 'A' boat took home first place in a time of 16:44 while the 'B' boat was second in 17:18.
In the collegiate 8 races, the open eights claimed first and fifth place, with the young collegiate 8 'A' boat finishing first in 13:56.
'Our varsity eights rowed well. We had five freshmen and four sophomores and they recorded the fastest time of the day,' said Mueller.
The Badgers finished ahead of Michigan, who recorded second, third and fourth place finishes in the race.
With the conclusion of the fall season, the men will next compete in the spring on April 4 in Madison.
