
Men's Hockey Visits Mankato

The No.10/11 University of Wisconsin men's hockey team (7-6-1, 4-4-0 WCHA) will travel to Mankato, Minn. this weekend, Dec. 7-8, to face the Minnesota State Mavericks (4-6-2, 2-6-2 WCHA) at the Alltell Center. This will be the Badgers' second conference road series of the season.

Wisconsin will face conference foe, Minnesota State, for just the 27th time in both program's histories. Wisconsin holds an edge over MSU, as the all-time series sits at 14-10-2. In the last four meetings however, the Badgers are 1-3-0, including a split in the team's only meeting last season at the Kohl Center. In Mankato, the Badgers have fallen to MSU, 4-7-1 all-time, including a sweep at the Alltel Center on Feb. 24-25, 2006. Following the losses, the Badgers went 9-1-0, en route to their 2006 NCAA title.
In action at the Kohl Center last weekend, the Badgers recorded a series sweep against St. Cloud State with two come-back wins. On Friday, Wisconsin scored three unanswered goals, after trailing 2-0 in the first period, to top the Huskies, 3-2. In Saturday 's game, the Badgers came back from a 3-2 third period deficit, to earn a 4-3 victory. Senior Josh Engel (Rice Lake, Wis.) scored two of his three season goals in Saturday's match-up.
The Mavericks are unbeaten in their last two games, after a 2-2 overtime draw and a 2-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Freshman defenseman Kurt Davis and senior Joel Hanson scored MSU's two goals on Friday, while juniors Blake Friesen and Mick Berge tallied scores Saturday night. Berge sits atop the WCHA for power play goals on the season (three).
For the Badgers, junior assistant captain Ben Street (Coquitlam, B.C.) scored in three consecutive games, before being held scoreless last Saturday against St. Cloud State. Street's game-winning goal in the third period last Friday followed his game-tying goal in the third period on Nov. 24 in the UW's 4-4 tie at Michigan State. The forward scored in the third period at Michigan on Nov. 23, as well. Street is second in the WHCA with two game-winning goals in just eight conference games.
The series versus Minnesota State will begin on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Alltel Center in Mankato. Saturday's game is set to face off at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live on WIBA 1310 AM in Madison, as well as on other affiliates throughout Wisconsin.
