Badger Newcomers
September 12, 2007 | Football
Since the NCAA only allows teams to bring in 105 players for fall camp, the UW football roster wasn't completely full until the first day of class last week. As of Sept. 4, 11 new faces made their way onto the practice field.
The new athletes include:
Jake Campbell, a kicker from Eau Claire, Wis.; Brad DeBauche, the younger brother of UW punter Ken DeBauche, who is also a punter, from Suamico, Wis.; Aaron Ehlers, a kicker from Menasha, Wis.; Eric Kossoris, a linebacker from Franklin, Wis.; Jeff Lichy, a running back from Miami, Fla.; Andrew Lukasko, a defensive back from Edgar, Wis.; Chukwumah Offor, a defensive back from Madison, Wis.; Zach Opsal, a long snapper who transferred from Western Michigan and is originally from Verona, Wis.; Mike Preisler, a running back from Port Washington, Wis.; Ryan Wickesberg, a linebacker from Saukville, Wis. and Kyle Wojta, a long snapper from Madison, Wis.
Look for the new guys to suit up for Badger home games.
After playing two games, five true freshmen have seen game action. WR David Gilreath, LB Blake Sorensen, WR Kyle Jefferson, DB Aaron Henry and RB Zach Brown have played in both games so far and are all listed first or second on the depth chart for their respective positions.
After the recent loss of WR Paul Hubbard to injury, Jefferson is listed atop the depth chart at one of the receiver spots.
Look for these freshmen along with others to play a large role this Saturday against the Citadel, as well as the rest of the season.
