
Badgers Place Second at Bill Dellinger Invitational

The No. 1-ranked Wisconsin men's cross country team took second place at the Bill Dellinger Invitational Saturday in Eugene, Ore. The Badgers scored 73 points but were bested by host Oregon, who had 54 points and is currently ranked No. 3 in the latest USTFCCCA national poll.
Junior Matt Withrow (Tinley Park, Ill.) took home the individual title, covering the 8,000-meter course in 23 minutes and 20 seconds to best runner-up Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott of Oregon by two seconds.
Sophomores Andrew Lacy (McFarland, Wis.) and Brandon Bethke (Lake Forest, Calif.) were next to cross the finish line for the UW, finishing 11th and 14th, respectively, in times of 23:48 and 23:52.
Sophomore Craig Miller (Lancaster, Pa.) and junior Christian Wagner (Columbus, Ind.) rounded out the scoring for UW by finishing together in 23:59, placing 23rd and 24th, respectively.
Also competing for Wisconsin were sophomore Landon Peacock (Morley, Mich.) and junior Ryan Gasper (Fort Atkinson, Wis.), finishing 32nd and 43rd, respectively, in times of 24:04 and 24:20.
Next for the young Badgers squad were four redshirt freshman. Jack Bolas (Chapel Hill, N.C.) placed 48th in 24:23 and Ryan Craven (Mount Prospect, Ill.) finished 74th in 24:49. Following close behind were Noah Shannon (Fort Collins, Colo.) and David Pede (Greenfield, Wis.) who finished 86th and 94th, respectively, in 24:58 and 25:09.
Sophomore Tim Pierie (Mokena, Ill.) was the last Badger to cross the finish line, placing 122nd in a time of 26:00.
The Badgers will next travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pre-NCAA Championships on Oct. 13. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. on the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
