Penn State held a slim 3-0 lead after the first frame, but was able to score on a two-yard run from RB Evan Royster early in the second quarter. Wisconsin would punt on the ensuing possession, only to watch Derrick Williams return the kick 63 yards for touchdown to open a 17-0 lead.
