
Badgers send seniors out with OT win

MADISON, Wis.--Cal Poly came to play, but in the end Wisconsin refused to lose.
The Badgers (7-5) got a six-yard touchdown run from John Clay in overtime to key a 36-35 victory over Cal Poly (8-2) Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall Stadium.
Cal Poly scored first and never trailed until Philip Welch' 's extra-point conversion in overtime gave the Badgers the victory. The Mustangs used a strong running game (276 yards) to eat up enormous amounts of time ' they held a remarkable 39:59 to 20:01 edge in time of possession ' and maintained a lead throughout. But the Badgers wouldn''t break.
The Mustangs led 29-21 when Wisconsin took over at its own 11-yard line with 4:00 left to play. Sherer, who completed 13 of 22 passes for a career-high 245 yards, directed a nine-play, 89-yard scoring drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown run from P.J. Hill with 1:42 left. Hill then scored on a 2-point conversion run to tie the game at 29.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 3 nationally in the Football Championship Subdivision, had the ball first in overtime and scored on a touchdown pass from quarterback Jonathan Dally to Ramses Barden on their first play. But Cal Poly''s Andrew Gardner missed the extra point, leaving his team with a 35-29 lead.
Clay carried on all three Wisconsin plays in the overtime, including a 6-yard touchdown run. Welch then booted the extra point to secure the win.
Clay rushed for 107 yards on just 11 carries and scored twice. WR David Gilreath also starred for the Badgers, making four catches for a career-high 125 yards. Safety Aubrey Pleasant made 12 tackles for the Badgers. Dally rushed for 118 yards to key the Mustangs'' offensive attack.
