Byrne, five Badgers earn Big Ten honors

After winning their 10th-straight Big Ten Championship on Sunday, head coach staffid=1045"> --> Mick Byrne and five members of the men's cross country team were recognized for their efforts in Ann Arbor. In his first season at the helm of the Badgers cross country team, Byrne was named Big Ten Coach of the Year. This marks the eighth-straight year in which Wisconsin has taken home Coach of Year honors as Jerry Schumacher earned the title eight times during his career at UW.
Byrne earned his first Big Ten Coach of the Year accolade, but he is no stranger to coach of the year trophies overall. Byrne was named NCAA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year on six different occassions as the head coach at Iona.
Wisconsin placed three runners in the top seven spots, sophomore athid=6103&deptid=195"> --> Landon Peacock , senior athid=5192&deptid=195"> --> Christian Wagner and sophomore athid=6100&deptid=195"> --> Jack Bolas , meriting first-team all-Big Ten honors. For Peacock it was the second-consecutive year receiving all-Big Ten accolades after he received a second-team bid last season as a freshman when he placed eighth for the Badgers.
Second-team honorees went senior athid=5257&deptid=195"> --> Stu Eagon and junior athid=6105&deptid=195"> --> Craig Miller after finishing 13th and 14th, respectively. Last season, Eagon placed fifth at the Big Ten Championships and earned himself first-team recognition, whereas Miller earned his first award in Big Ten competition.
In order to receive first team All-Big Ten, runners have to place in the top seven spots of the race. For second team, it is the top 14 runners at the Big Ten Championship.
This was the second consecutive year that the Badgers had five runners recognized by the Big Ten during the championship. Looking ahead, UW will compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in West Lafayette, Indiana on November 15th in hopes of capturing its seventh-straight regional championship
