Goloubef makes Canada's World Junior team

For the second consecutive season, the University of Wisconsin will be the only NCAA school represented on Team Canada's entry to the IIHF World Junior Championship as sophomore defenseman Cody Goloubef was named to the team on Monday.
Goloubef, the 37th overall draft pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, made the 22-member squad that will compete in the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships in Ottawa, Ontario from Dec. 26-Jan. 5.
Goloubef and Team Canada will be searching for a fifth consecutive gold medal at the event. Last year, former Badger Kyle Turris helped Canada to gold in the Czech Republic.
Goloubef joins fellow Badger sophomore Ryan McDonagh in the tournament as McDonagh will skate for Team USA. Both will miss the Badger Hockey Showdown and the Jan. 2-3 series against Northern Michigan.
This marks the seventh consecutive season that Wisconsin will send at least one of its players to the World Juniors, and the 10th time in 11 years.
Badger fans will be able to follow along with this year's tournament on NHL Network. The NHL Network will carry all Team USA and Team Canada preliminary round contests, as well as the entire medal round.
The schedule for USA and Canada is listed below. The two countries will skate against each other on Wed., Dec. 31 at 6:30 p.m., CT.
