
Men's Track Wins Three at Iowa

The University of Wisconsin men's track and field team won three events at the Iowa Invitational Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa. The Badgers also picked up two NCAA regional qualifying marks.
Freshman Nate Larkin won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.28 seconds. He ran a personal best and regional qualifying time of 14.23 in the preliminaries. Senior Adam Pischke finished second in the hurdles in 14.79.
Freshman Robert Dehn won the javelin with a personal best and regional qualifying throw of 202 feet, 6 inches. His throw ranks him fifth on the UW all-time list.
Wisconsin's other event winner came in the high jump, where redshirt freshman Pat Nichols claimed the title at 6-8 '. Freshmen Ryan Marschall and David Grzesiak tied for fifth in the high jump at 6-2 '.
Junior James Groce picked up two second-place finishes. The Milwaukee native placed second in the 200 meters in 21.72 and was also a member of the second-place 400-meter relay. He teamed with Andrew Milenkovski, Chas Demers and Larkin to cross in 41.68.
Milenkovski also placed sixth in the 400 meters in 50.95 and eighth in the 200 meters in 22.93. Senior Luke Hoenecke was the top finisher in the 400 meters, taking fourth in 49.29, while freshman Quinn Evans placed fifth in 50.62. Hoenecke also took seventh in the 200 meters in 22.71.
Senior Derek Thiel took second in the pole vault at 15-9 while former Badger Darren Niedermeyer won the event at 17-0 '. Freshman Mickey DeFilippo tied for seventh in the vault at 14-9.
Freshman Jim Liermann picked up a second-place finish in the triple jump, leaping 47-6 '.
