The Lott Trophy is named after Hall of Fame defensive back Ronnie Lott and is awarded annually to the nation's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. In its fourth year, the Lott Trophy is the first college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character of the players.
Sponsored by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the award is given to a player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career; Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Casillas is one of seven repeat nominees up for this year's award. The New Brunswick, N.J. native has been a consensus honorable mention All-Big Ten selection for the last two years, has started 26 consecutive games and led the team with 96 tackles during the 2007 season.
Georgia's David Pollack won the initial award in 2004. DeMarco Ryans of Alabama took home the trophy in 2005, while Daymeion Hughes of Cal (2006) and Glenn Dorsey of LSU (2007) have won the two most recent awards.
