Football Camps in Full Swing
June 19, 2008 | Football
With school out for summer, football players from all areas of the map are in Madison for the next week to participate in the Wisconsin Football Camps. The UW coaching staff and current Badgers are on hand to help the campers work on all aspects of the game.
Wisconsin offers two different high school camps, a youth camp (grades 4-8) and a specialist's camp for kickers and punters.
The high school camps help players who already play the game to hone their skills working with one of the top coaching staffs in college football and to interact and practice with current Badgers, who not that long ago where playing high school football themselves. A typical day at camp has the campers up at 7 a.m., eating a big breakfast and then practicing from 9-11 a.m. After a three hour break for lunch and relaxing, the campers take the field for another two hours before dinner. Finally, at 7 p.m., the players have a passing league and are off to bed around 10:30.
Campers are able to not only work on the game of football itself, but are immersed in everything Badger football. Campers have the opportunity to use Wisconsin's equipment, facilities and play on the turf at Camp Randall Stadium.
The one-day youth camp allows grade school children to see what it's like to be a Badger for the day and meet the coaches and some of the players. The specialist camp gives high school kickers and punters the opportunity to receive instruction from some of the top specialist coaches in the country and practice their skills at Camp Randall Stadium.
