Wisconsin Badger History Debuted in Football Vault' Book
July 21, 2008 | Football
When you say Wisconsin, you've said it all. And when you pick up the University of Wisconsin Football Vault': The History of the Badgers, you get it all. No book brings it all together ' the people, the games, the history of Bucky, the trying times, the dedication of the fans and even the mementos ' like the Wisconsin Football Vault' does.
'Wherever the Badger football team traveled, there were friends and supporters there to support us every step of the way,' says athletic director and former coach Barry Alvarez. 'And when we were at home, Camp Randall Stadium was packed with the greatest college football fans in the country. That incredible support, combined with the spirit and dedication of the student-athletes and coaching staffs, has helped build a vault that is filled with Wisconsin football memories.'
As much a scrapbook as it is a history book, opening the vault is like getting a guided tour through your own personal Wisconsin football museum. And who better to guide your tour than one of the Badger's all-time greats, All-American end and longtime athletic director Pat Richter. In the University of Wisconsin Football Vault', Richter, along with senior associate athletic director Vince Sweeney and assistant athletic director for communications Justin Doherty, mixes great game coverage with behind-the-scenes anecdotes and personal stories to present a view of Badger football that you won't find anywhere else.
'You'll find so many of the program's great traditions, stories, players and coaches presented in a very unique manner in the University of Wisconsin Football Vault',' says head coach Bret Bielema, who provides his insight in the foreword. 'This book is filled with historic photos, ticket stubs, program covers and much more built into a narrative history of Badger football. '
Explore the vault's dozens of sleeves and pockets to get your hands on an 1894 booklet of songs and yells, a 1905 foldable megaphone, a letter from Pat O'Dea after his reappearance, a poster featuring the Badgers' 'Great Dayne, ' a miniature pennant, a 2007 'Beat Michigan' sticker and more.
In addition, you'll find reproductions of tickets and programs from some of Wisconsin's most memorable games ' among others, the Badgers' first win over Minnesota in 1894, UW's 1942 victory over No. 1 Ohio State, John Jardine's first win as coach in 1970, Wisconsin's first bowl triumph in 1982 and the 2007 Capital One Bowl victory over Arkansas.
