Today, the UW football team's win over Michigan State, it's 14th consecutive victory, is the No. 11 moment.
The Badgers defeated Michigan State, 37-34, on Sept. 29 at Camp Randall Stadium. The offensive shootout saw the Badgers turn a 14-7 first-quarter deficit into a 27-21 lead at halftime on the strength of two Taylor Mehlhaff field goals in the final two minutes of the first half. UW extended that lead to 34-24 early in the third quarter after a touchdown plunge by P.J. Hill. Michigan State tied the game up in the fourth quarter but a 22-yard field goal by Mehlhaff, his third of the day, provided the winning margin.
The two teams combined for 1,025 yards of total offense. Hill carried the ball 34 times for 155 yards while tight end Travis Beckum had 10 catches for 132 yards. Freshman David Gilreath also accounted for 189 yards in kickoff returns.
The victory improved the Badgers' record to 5-0 on the season and was their 14th consecutive win, dating back to the previous year. That winning streak was the longest in the country at that time and was the second-longest in school history.
