Gruber places third at Wildcat Invitational

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women’s tennis team went 2-4 in singles play on Sunday to wrap up the Wildcat Invitational and finished with an overall record of 8-10 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles play. Sophomore Lauren Gruber placed third in her flight, while freshman Hannah Berner reached the semi-finals.

Gruber won her final match against Michigan State’s Christine Milliken 6-4, 6-3 to take third place and finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. Berner also produced a 2-1 record, but fell in the semi-finals of her flight to Northwestern’s Linda Abu Mushrefova. Berner lost in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (0).

Sophomore Angela Chupa was the only other Badger to come away with a 2-1 record as she won her consolation match today against Oklahoma’s Brittany Parks 6-3, 6-4.

Co-Captains Katya Mirnova and Jessica Seyferth both dropped their matches today to finish the tournament with a 1-2 record. Mirnova fell to Depaul’s Anna Redesci 6-3, 6-0, while Seyferth was beaten by Northwestern’s Kate Turvy 6-1, 6-1.

Sophomore Aleksandra Markovic was the only Badger that failed to earn a singles victory at the Wildcat Invitational, losing all three of her matches. Markovica lost her match today against Akron’s Prang Pantusart 6-3, 7-6 (2).
