MADISON, Wis. - The No. 13-ranked Wisconsin men's cross country team won the Jim Drews Invitational Saturday in West Salem, Wis. This is the third time in four years that the UW has won this meet. The Badgers won the eight-kilometer race in dramatic fashion, scoring 32 points and finishing all five of its runners in the top 15.

Junior Landon Peacock led the way for the Badgers, finishing the race in first place in a time of 24:27.1. After a tune-up run at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, Peacock performed in his usual fashion as the top runner for the Badgers for the first time this season.

"Landon did very well coming back he seemed to be in control and that's what we wanted," said head coach Mick Byrne.

Junior Jack Bolas finished in second place in his first race this season in a time of 24:42.1. Bolas, who finished seventh overall at the Big Ten Championships last year, has been recovering from an injury and looks to be in great shape.

"Same goes for Jack Bolas," added Byrne. "He looked really good in his first race back and stayed in control."

Sophomore Phil Thomas finished third for the Badgers and fourth overall in a time of 24:49.1. Junior Noel Bateman and redshirt freshman Rob Finnerty rounded out the scoring for the Badgers, placing 11th and 14th, respectively, in times of 25:01.2 and 25:07.3.

At day's end, Byrne seemed satisfied with the meet and optimistic for the weeks to come.

"Overall, we got out of the race what we wanted to and look forward to next week and the Big Tens."

The Badgers can next be seen when they return home to host the Badger Ridge Run on Oct. 24 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The men's 8k race will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6k race at 11:00 a.m.
