MADISON, Wis. -- Coming off three consecutive victories, including a 45-21 win over Michigan on Saturday, the Wisconsin football team rose once again in all the major national polls released this week.
The Badgers are 8-2, including 5-2 and tied for second place in the Big Ten. That translates into a No. 16 ranking in the latest Bowl Championship Series rankings, up four spots from last week. That is UW’s highest BCS ranking since the final BCS poll of 2006 (Dec. 3) when the team ranked seventh.
In the two poll components of the BCS rankings, the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive Poll, Wisconsin made significant advances. The Badgers are ranked 14th in the coaches poll, a six-spot improvement from last week. In the Harris Poll, UW jumped five spots to 15th.
UW rose four spots in the Associated Press poll, ranking 17th this week.
The Badgers are one of four Big Ten teams to appear in this week’s rankings joining Ohio State, Iowa and Penn State. The Buckeyes, assured of a BCS bid, are ranked 10th in the BCS while Iowa is 13th and Penn State is 14th.
