Men's Basketball's Ultimate Pregame Mix
July 21, 2009 | Men's Basketball
Ever wonder what athletes are streaming through their headphones during pregame warm-ups or in the locker room' Maybe you're curious how Trevon Hughes get fired up for a game or what Keaton Nankivil listens to focus before tip-off.
We asked the Wisconsin men's basketball team to put together the team 's Ultimate Pregame Mix. Here's what the guys picked:
Wisconsin Men's Basketball Ultimate Pregame Mix
1. Bring Em Out ' by T.I. ' picked by FR Mike Bruesewitz
2. Public Service Announcement ' by Jay-Z ' picked by JR Keaton Nankivil
3. Let it Rock ' by Kevin Rudolf & Lil Wayne ' picked by JR Wquinton Smith
4. Disco Inferno ' by 50 Cent ' picked by SR Trevon Hughes
5. Hero ' by Nas ' picked by redshirt JR Brett Valentyn
6. Amazing ' by Kanye West ' picked by JR Jon Leuer
7. Renegade ' by Jay-Z ' picked by SO Jordan Taylor
8. Alright ' by Darius Rucker ' picked by JR Tim Jarmusz
9. My Time ' by Fabolous ' picked by redshirt FR Jared Berggren
10. Halftime ' by Nas ' picked by JR Keaton Nankivil
11. Enter Sandman ' by Metallica ' picked by redshirt JR J.P. Gavinski
12. Best Rapper Alive ' Lil Wayne ' picked by FR Mike Bruesewitz
13. Jock'n Jay-Z ' by Jay-Z ' picked by redshirt FR Jared Berggren
14. Right Now ' by Van Halen ' picked by SR Jason Bohannon
As you can see, it's mostly a hip-hop ensemble with a heavy Jay-Z influence. Freshman Mike Bruesewitz hasn't even played in a game at the Kohl Center, but he 's got the right idea with T.I.'s 'Bring Em Out'. That was the song played just before tip-off at Badger home games last season.
Junior Tim Jarmusz threw in a little country music for good measure, although he did say the old Jock Jams albums could do the trick too. What pregame mix would be complete without Metallica's anthem, 'Enter Sandman' and 'Right Now ' by Van Halen' If that doesn't get the blood pumping, you may want to see a cardiologist. The funny thing is that Bohannon was just four years old when Van Halen released 'Right Now' and Gavinski was just three when 'Enter Sandman' came out.
For grins (and to diversify our audience) a few of the players nominated some of their favorite 'throwback jams' as well.
Valentyn: 'September' by Earth, Wind & Fire
Evans: 'Rapper's Delight' by Sugarhill Gang, 'Atomic Dog' by George Clinton and 'This is How We Do It' by Montell Jordan
Berggren: 'Lean On Me' by Bill Withers
Jarmusz: 'Will You Be There' by Michael Jackson
Leuer: 'A Country Boy Can Survive' by Hank Williams, Jr.
