Team Notes
' Wisconsin scored 21 points in a span of 4:41 in the second quarter. UW 's 28 points in the second quarter were the most points in a quarter since the Badgers scored 34 points in the second quarter vs. Temple on Sept. 10, 2005.
' The Badgers piled up 31 points in the first half vs. Wofford. That is the most points in a half for UW since posting 34 points in the second half vs. Marshall on Sept. 6, 2008.
' Wisconsin scored on each of its six trips (5 TDs, 1 FG) inside the 20-yard line Saturday. On the season, Wisconsin has now scored on all 12 of its red zone possessions (10 TDs, 2 FGs).
' Wisconsin's 44-14 win over Wofford marked the Badgers' largest margin of victory since a 55-20 win at Indiana on Nov. 8, 2008. That win over the Hoosiers also served as the last time UW scored 40 points or more in a contest.
Offensive Notes
' Junior tight end Lance Kendricks scored his first career touchdown on a 3-yard reception on the first play of the second quarter. Kendricks finished with a career-high six receptions (for 70 yards). His previous career-high was three catches vs. Marshall last season.
' Offensive linemen John Moffitt and Bill Nagy, both listed as starters coming out of spring practice, saw their first action of the season after sitting out the first two games with injuries.
' Redshirt freshman Erik Smith registered career-highs with 54 yards on 10 carries. His 4-yard TD run in the second quarter was the first touchdown of his career.
' Senior tight end Garrett Graham, who led the Badgers last season with five touchdown receptions, registered his first TD grab of the season in the second quarter, a seven-yard completion from QB Scott Tolzien.
' Tolzien has thrown four touchdown passes this season to four different receivers (Kendricks, Graham, Isaac Anderson and Nick Toon).
' Tolzien completed 15-of-20 passes for 159 yards and a career-high two touchdowns Saturday. Tolzien has now completed 47-of-68 (69.1 percent) passes this season.
' Sophomore wide receiver Nick Toon, who leads the Badgers with 15 receptions this season, had a career-high six catches today. His former career high was five catches vs. Northern Illinois in the season-opener.
' Redshirt freshman quarterback Curt Phillips played in his second career game, rushing for a personal-best 92 yards on four carries (23.0 avg.).
' Phillips became the first UW quarterback to lead the Badgers in rushing since Brooks Bollinger ran for 127 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown against Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2000 ' a 41-20 win for the Badgers.
' Phillips engineered the first two scoring drives scoring drives of his career, leading the Badgers on an eight-play, 62-yard drive that resulted in a 2-yard TD run from Zach Brown and then quarterbacked UW on a nine-play, 80-yard march that concluded with another 2-yard TD from Brown.
' Brown ran for two touchdowns, bringing his career total to 11. It was his third career two-TD game.
Defensive Notes
' Freshman linebacker Mike Taylor recorded his first career sack (-7 yards), snuffing out a Wofford fourth-down try in the second quarter. Taylor finished the game with a career-high nine tackles, including two TFLs for 10 yards.
' Fellow linebacker Culmer St. Jean also recorded a career-high in tackles, leading the team with 15 stops.
' Senior defensive end O'Brien Schofield, who entered this game tied for the NCAA lead in TFLs, forced the second fumble of his career, sacking Wofford quarterback Mitch Allen late in the second quarter. He also added a TFL for minus five yards on the day.
' Linebacker Culmer St. Jean, cornerback Antonio Fenelus and defensive end David Gilbert all recorded their first career fumble recoveries in the first half.
' Wisconsin recovered three fumbles in a game for the first time since recovering three against Michigan last season.
' Wofford did not complete its first pass until the third quarter. The Terriers had just 45 passing yards, the fewest for a UW opponent since limiting Western Kentucky to just 28 yards on Sept. 29, 2002 in a 24-6 win.
' Wisconsin also limited Wofford to just three completions on seven attempts, the lowest total for a UW opponent since the Hilltoppers finished the game 1-for-4 passing.
' Sophomore cornerback Devin Smith recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter, thwarting a Wofford drive with a pick in the end zone.
Special Teams Notes
' A pair of true freshmen teamed up for Wisconsin's punt block for a touchdown in the second quarter. Linebacker Chris Borland blocked the punt and defensive lineman David Gilbert fell on the ball in the end zone.
' It was the Badgers' first blocked punt since Ben Strickland blocked a punt vs. Iowa on Sept. 22, 2007.
' It was UW's first blocked punt for a touchdown since Bret Bielema 's first game as head coach, Sept. 2, 2006, when Jonathan Casillas blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone vs. Bowling Green.
