No. 18 Wisconsin improves to 16-4, 6-2 on the season.
Bo Ryan recorded his 100th Big Ten win. He ties former Indiana coach Branch McCracken as the second-fastest coach in conference history to record 100 Big Ten wins, doing so in 140 games. Only Bob Knight (131 games) reached the milestone faster.
Wisconsin recorded its 12th-consecutive win over Penn State, which ranks as the longest active win streak against a single opponent in the Big Ten.
UW has been outshot (in terms of field goal percentage) in six straight games, but owns a 4-2 record in those games. The Badgers are now 52-66 all-time under Bo Ryan when being outshot, but 7-4 this season.
UW came into the game ranked second in the country with just 9.7 turnovers per contest. The Badgers had five on Sunday, giving them five or fewer in three of their last four games.
Sunday's win is the fourth-largest second half deficit overcome in a win in program history. The Badgers trailed Penn State by 16, 52-36, with 11:14 left in the second half. It is the largest comeback since the Badgers overcame a 17-point deficit to Toledo on Nov. 29, 1982, a game the Badgers won 79-71.
The comeback win is the second-largest second half deficit overcome against a Big Ten foe. The largest occurred on Jan. 5, 1976, when UW trailed Ohio State by 18 at the half and came back to win 82-81 in overtime.
UW improves to 7-5 all-time under Bo Ryan in overtime games and 1-1 this season.
Wisconsin had four players in double figures (Trevon Hughes with 22, Jordan Taylor with 20, Keaton Nankivil with 17 and Jason Bohannon with 13) for the first time since five players (Jon Leuer with 17, Bohannon with 15, Hughes with 12, Taylor with 11 and Ryan Evans with 10 points) eclipsed 10 points against Illinois-Chicago on Dec. 27.
Wisconsin made 10 3-pointers on Sunday, its fifth game this season with at least 10 3-pointers. The last time the Badgers did it was on Dec. 31, 2009 against Ohio State when they made 10.
Wisconsin's 12 steals matched a season-high. UW also had 12 against Cal Poly on Dec. 16.
The Badgers had two 20-point scorers (Trevon Hughes with 22, Jordan Taylor with 20) for the third time this season. The last time it happened was against Purdue on Jan. 9 when Taylor had 23 and Jason Bohannon had 20.
Three players logged career highs in minutes, as Trevon Hughes played 45 minutes (previous high was 40) and Keaton Nankivil played 42 (was 34). Rob Wilson nearly doubled his previous career best as he played 36 minutes, while he played 19 minutes against Grambling State on Dec. 5. Jason Bohannon tied his career high with 43 minutes played.
Wisconsin made more free throws than Penn State attempted on Sunday. UW made 17-of-19 as opposed to 6-of-8 for Penn State. Wisconsin is 188-for-242, while opponents are 112-for-161.
Wisconsin's starting backcourt of Trevon Hughes and Jordan Taylor combined for 10 assists and zero turnovers.
Penn State's 18 turnovers were the second-highest for a UW opponent this season. Cal Poly committed 22 turnovers on Dec. 16.
Trevon Hughes
Senior Trevon Hughes finished with 22 points, his second straight game with 20+ points. It's Hughes' seventh game this season, and 15th of his career, with at least 20 points.
Jason Bohannon
Senior Jason Bohannon recorded his 1,000th career point in overtime against the Nittany Lions. He needed 12 points entering the game, and finished with 13 to give him 1,001 for his career. Along with Trevon Hughes, who accomplished the feat earlier this year, Bohannon becomes the ninth player to reach 1,000 points under head coach Bo Ryan. Bohannon ranks 34th all-time at UW in career points.
Bohannon also surpassed 300 career rebounds. He needed one entering the game, and finished with five, to give him 304 for his career.
Bohannon tied a career high with three steals on Sunday.
Bohannon blocked two shots on Sunday, giving him 13 for the season. He had 10 in first three year combined.
Jordan Taylor
The sophomore guard started the game 0-for-8 from the field, and was 0-for-15 dating back to the Michigan game on Jan. 20, but made his last six shots on Sunday against Penn State.
Taylor went on a personal 8-0 run over the last 1:47 to erase a 60-52 Penn State lead and force overtime.
Of the team's last 24 points, Taylor had 18 and finished with 20 points overall, his second career 20-point game. It was three points off his career high, set on Jan. 9 against Purdue when he had 23.
Keaton Nankivil
Junior forward Keaton Nankivil poured in a season-high 17 points on a career-best seven made field goals.
