IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Wisconsin volleyball team is looking to make it two wins in a row as they take on Iowa tonight in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. First serve is at 6 p.m.
The Badgers ended their seven-match Big Ten Conference losing streak with a 3-1 win over Purdue last Sunday at home.
“Obviously, we’d like to reverse the results of a few of those matches, we had some close ones and we had an injury to a starter in between,” said UW Coach Pete Waite. “We’d like to turn it around and start climbing up the conference rankings.”
The Hawkeyes are tied with the Badgers for 10th place in the leage at 1-7. Iowa is 6-11 overall, having dropped it last five matches. Iowa is led by junior Mallory Husz, a 6-0 middle blocker, who averages 2.46 kills per set while hitting at .245. Senior Becky Walters, a 6-3 middle blocker, chips in 2.41 kills and has a team-best 0.95 blocks per set. Walters ranks third in the Big Ten with 0.48 service aces per set.
Like the Badgers, Iowa is a young team, starting as many as four freshmen thi season. Freshman Rachael Bedell, a 6-1 outside hitter, puts down 2.08 kill per set. Freshman setter Nikki Dailey splits time with junior Paige Stevens and the Hawkeyes also start freshman Bethany Yeager at libero.
Wisconsin lost both matches to Iowa last season, sweeping the Badgers for the first time since 1994. UW leads the all-time series 40-20-1, including a 17-11 advantage in Iowa City.
